The first laughter club was started in a public park by Dr. Madan Kataria in Bombay, India on the 13th of March, 1995. Dr. Kataria, a physician, developed a new concept of group laughter based on yoga.

Currently, there are nearly 2,500 laughter clubs in Canada, US, Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Italy, UK, Kuwait, Singapore, Australia and many other countries.
