    Thank God I Wasn't Born a Woman!

This saying, uttered by some men during religious marriage ceremonies, actually has its roots in the construction of buildings for symphony orchestras and other artistic type of performances where large groups of people would gather and the creation inside of the buildings of separate bathrooms for men and women.

During intermission, two lines would form. One at the men's bathroom, the other at the women's. The men's line moved rapidly while the women's line hardly moved at all.

Each time a man looked in the direction of the women's waiting line, he realized how good he had it, because of the easy access to his simplified plumbing. With this realization, an involuntary exclamation escaped out of the man's mouth, "Thank God I wasn't born a woman!"

Somehow this saying became part of a religious tradition. How it got to be that way no one knows. But all do agree is that originally it was nothing more than a theatrical expression.

The need for sensitivity toward others is forcing a change in this type of marriage ritual. Now some of the men say, "Thank God I wasn't born a feminist!" It's not much of a change but then any change is better than no change at all.
