One of the tests during basic training in the Marines involves being dropped off on a beach in a bug infested area, where you are obliged to lie in the sand and stay emotionally quiet and physically still as hundreds of bugs viciously chew on your body.
As you lie there for hours, silent and motionless, the drill sergeant paces back and forth screaming, "When you are a civilian and have to wait patiently for your girlfriend to get ready for your date, you will appreciate the training you are getting here."
