Why are we strangers to each other in our neighborhoods? Even in an apartment building, the people living there are strangers to each other.
Why? It's because we insist on having our own separate toilets, that's why!
In the old country, there was only one outhouse for the whole town. It was not only a place to take a dump, but a place to socialize and swap stories with your neighbors. When the container in the outhouse was full, its contents were converted into fertilizer.
Each spring, the fertilizer was mixed into the soil and then vegetables were planted. At harvest time, there was a community get-together for a feast and each person ate their fill. Because of the fertilizer, the corn, the peas, and all the other greens tasted so much sweeter.
And as they all ate in satisfaction of the great bounty, there was a feeling of good will toward all men and women in gratitude, for as each person looked around, no one knew which asshole was responsible for contributing to the good taste in the vegetables.
